As part of the framing device, it chooses less important parts of the memory to implement an Evil Mode, also known as a Hard Mode, which is controlled by a daemon thoughtform named [[BSTRD]] and is intended to be more difficult but optional. The events of the recollection contained in the Evil Mode remains intact though it is unclear what was or was not part of the memory. When participating in this mode, [[BSTRD]] makes many appearances either in the form of their face in the background, on an object, controlling another thoughtform, or even in the inherited context. During these modes, the CMY-K color scheme is broken by the color #FF0066 , a motif of [[BSTRD]]'s interference via the frame.

First fight in the Collapse Recollection, looks like a turn-based RPG due to the framing device.

A framing device is an illegal thoughtform package intended to trick a Mindspike's onboard AI into permitting the user to experience memory streams with thoughtforms non-compliant with the Mindspike license, containing acts of violence or aggressive action. It can result in memory instability and is intended for human memories, specifically combat recordings. Framing devices were first created after a major MindSci lawsuit which resulted in restrictions imposed on combative thoughtforms in 2052.

Moth obtained a framing device from a college friend which allows Interloper to experience the Collapse Recollection in The Embassy. The framing device's patterns are passed through Interloper's mindspike, which is converted into thought directions for use by Funfriend, who enforced the structure over the Collapse Recollection.

The framing device converts the memories of combat contained in the Collapse Recollection into turn-based RPG combat, where both enemy and ally team have a collection of moves that can be chosen. Due to the tight turnaround time required between EP1 and EP2, Moth's college friend packed multiple structures into the framing device. Currently, known structures contained in the framing device are turn based combat, melee, stormy vessel, and fishy.

During Evil Mode, combat will be harder as well as imagery of BSTRD and the color #FF0066

As part of the framing device, it chooses less important parts of the memory to implement an Evil Mode, also known as a Hard Mode, which is controlled by a daemon thoughtform named BSTRD and is intended to be more difficult but optional. The events of the recollection contained in the Evil Mode remains intact though it is unclear what was or was not part of the memory. When participating in this mode, BSTRD makes many appearances either in the form of their face in the background, on an object, controlling another thoughtform, or even in the inherited context. During these modes, the CMY-K color scheme is broken by the color #FF0066 , a motif of BSTRD's interference via the frame.
