The Dull Contrivance Gate as seen in the Void

The Dull Contrivance is a gate first discovered in the Void. It resembles a black hole, with a white center and swirls of violet and black surrounding it. Currently, there is prohibitive incoherence preventing the Interloper from accessing it, which requires repair by Funfriend.

The Dull

The Dull Contrivance is also known as the Dull by Obesk, which is considered as a plane outside of Velzie's creation.[1] It is the source of many foundational Obesk technologies, such as interstellar space travel, tools and weapons, and communication. The Dull is named after Dullzkovik, who has done extensive studies on the Dull and its effects. He discovered that the Dull cannot support any known life, which may have sparked the corrucystic revolution and the development of mindcores.

When dull is inputted into the Memory Hole, it reveals a memory stream of Akizet traveling through the Dull for the third time. This memory reveals that the Obesk have Dull Stations to control and assist space travel. While traveling through the Dull, communications may be unavailable and that the Dull Vessel and any tethers to the Dull must be released. Additionally, traveling Obesk may bring a tithe to discard during travel, which is a sentimental item that is left behind for good luck. Despite Akizet releasing all sensation in her deathly form, she is unable to escape the dreadful feeling of passing through the Dull.[2]

Obesk Collective

The Collective is a network that is collectively used by the Obesk, primarily through communicators. It utilizes the Dull in methods not currently known. Obesk use signatures, which may be self-designed, designed by another Obesk, or self-intuitively generated, as a method to represent themselves on the network.[3] This has been the primary method of representing the memories of Obesk held within Akizet's personal corrucyst.

The Collective's closest equivalent is the human Internet. When Kazki is using a new communicator that can connect to the human Internet in Recollection: Suspicion, she describes it as "very flat" but "not so different" compared to the Obesk collective.[4]
